…and the pod opened… – September 6, 2007

Hannah delivered this morning! We had to rush her via ambulance to the hospital and the babies were born shortly after she arrived.

They came three weeks earlier than we had hoped but 29 weeks is still ok. Their weights were 3 lb 5 oz, 3lb 11oz and 2lb 5 oz for babies A, B and C, respectively. Please keep them and Hannah in your prayers!

There are some pictures posted directly below. To view all the images we took this afternoon, please click here.

28 Weeks and Counting! – September 1, 2007

We have passed the 28 week mark, which is a big milestone and means that the odds are much more favorable for healthy delivery of the babies, with less risk for major complications such as significant brain bleeds, lung development, and many other things. Thank you all for your continued prayers! If we can make it another 4 weeks, it would be great.

The babies have grown so much in the past 4 weeks! We visited the MFM doctors this afternoon for updated growth measurements and to get an update on Baby C. New weight estimates for the babies are: Baby B has taken over at 3 lbs. (!); Baby A is right behind him at 2 lbs., 11 oz.; and Baby C continues to grow steadily but is still the smaller one at approx. 2 lbs., 1 oz.

We had a different technician this time and she was in a hurry to get out for the holiday weekend, so we didn’t get to see any 4D images this time, but she did do some profile images for us on the regular sonogram (below). Baby C was sucking his thumb when she took the picture.

Some very good news – the MFM doctor said that it looks as though Baby C’s CAM growth has shrunk, and he is optimistic that is may still resolve itself in the next couple of weeks, which is what we have been praying for and would be the best case scenario. He said that in his opinion, based on what they can see right now on the sonogram, it does not appear that Baby C will require emergency surgery or immediate intervention right at birth to deal with the CAM.

Threes

This has been the year of “threes”:
It is the 3rd city we have lived in (in just as many years)….
We are having triplets….
It is our church’s 30th anniversary (3rd decade)…
We both turned 30 this year (as did many friends and co-workers)…
Manish is in his 3rd and final rotation in his job…
And Nikon has developed a new camera called the “D3“
(see below for more info)…

Manish wants one…actually, he wants three of them…very badly. But, the triplets and their needs come first. He says that he really hopes the triplets appreciate what he is giving up for them. In exchange, he expects them to behave the first 3 years with no crying, smelling, whining, etc….

Yeah right!!!

August 18, 2007

Now that the babies are nearly 27 weeks, the doctors have officially placed Hannah on bed rest. The goal is to get the babies to at least 30 weeks, so that their lungs are more fully developed (32 weeks would be best). This would drastically reduce the risk of major complications and their stay in NICU.

Thankfully, the babies are continuing to grow and seem healthy; we will go back to the doctors in the next two weeks for updated growth and measurements.

August 3, 2007

On Friday, we went to the MFM doctors again. Since 4 weeks have passed, they were able to do comparative measurements and approximate weight estimates on all of the babies. Baby A is estimated at 1.07 lbs., Baby B at 1.11 lbs., and Baby C is up to 1.03 lbs. This is good news, particularly since they were concerned about Baby C’s growth rate.

Additionally, the doctors looked at the CAM growth in Baby C’s lung and it does not appear to have grown any larger. They did not go as far as to say that it was any smaller, but said that measuring the size of the growth is somewhat subjective, since it may simply be that the growth has stayed the same size as the baby has grown. The doctors were pleased with this and mentioned again that perhaps it will be one that resolves itself. Please continue to pray for Baby C!

We also got a pleasant surprise while the technician was taking the measurements via ultrasound. Manish wanted to see the babies’ profiles and the technician was having a hard time getting them to come up because of the way the babies were turned. Since it was fairly quiet in the office and the ultrasound machine was the one that they have which also has some limited 4-D technology, she played around with it a bit and we were able to see the babies faces on 4-D, which was really neat! They didn’t have the nice sharp color printer needed for good 4-D image printouts, but she did print a few out in black & white for us (see below for a couple of the images). Baby B had his hands up in front of his face and so she tapped on him a couple of times to try to get him to move them…he did eventually, but as you can see from the disgrunted look on his face, he didn’t like it very much!
